We had a conversation with the manager of Eritrea Pro Cycling team, and that's Ronny - Ronny, tell me a bit more about the team's future. Ronny: 'Since we've sold Yonnas 'Smooth' Lelisa the team's moral isn't too high. The results aren't really good, but everyone is happy with Yonnas' results with his new team, POM Wonderful of manager Bolt. Gary won his first race in like a month and that was just what we needed. We gave two youngsters a contract: Habtamu Abete, a young Eritrean climber, whose potential isn't that obvious. He failed in the technique tests, but we gave him a chance. Maybe that wasn't a good choice, but hence he's Eritrean. The other signing is Eden Chappell, a Aussie of 21 years old, he's a very talented all round- sprinter.'
Tell me more about him, Ronny: His potentials are in sprinting very good, flat road small, technique average, hills average and downhill good. If we train him he could be a sprinter who survives a hill and eventually can come back in the descent of it. We're not sure yet if we're gonna let him go or keep him. Other managers can bid if they want!
Ronny, it's obvious that you spend a lot of time with the NT lately, some extra words please. ' That's true, with Birhan (Habteriam) and 'smooth' (Yonnas Lelisa) we have a captain in the hills and on the flat. We're very happy with that and the team's moral is very high. Riders are willing to ride for those two captains and they're good aswell. They're also young, so the future of Eritrean cycling is saved. Thanks to all the international teams that save those riders and develop them. I want to thank them with all my heart!'
Thanks for your time, Ronny and good luck in the future.
